With your explicit consent through Ring's account linking, Street Tally receives Ring's motion alerts for the cameras you share and, for each alert that Ring tags as a vehicle (or each motion alert, if Smart Alerts are off), downloads a short recording of about 8 seconds from your Ring account. It also stores each camera's name. At linking you give us your email address and ZIP code. We use these for one purpose: to count the vehicles that pass your camera by time, direction of travel, colour and body style, and show you those counts.
About a minute after a vehicle alert, Street Tally downloads the recording and turns it into tiny 96 by 54 pixel frames on our own server. A fixed, rule-based procedure compares each frame with the unchanging background to find which way the moving vehicle travelled. Three frames are then combined into one small picture and sent to an AI vision service (see below) that answers three questions only: the vehicle's colour, its body style (for example sedan, SUV, pickup) and its direction. The recording and the picture are deleted as soon as that answer arrives, usually within seconds. Each camera has a daily allowance for colour and style readings; past it, vehicles are still counted with their direction only.
Colour and body style are read by Anthropic's Claude, a general-purpose AI model, through Anthropic's commercial API. It receives the three-frame picture and an instruction to report only colour, body style and direction, and never plates or people; its answer can only take those three values. Anthropic processes the picture on our behalf and does not use data sent through its commercial API to train its models. Street Tally itself does not train any model, and your data is never used to train any model, ours or anyone else's.
Your email identifies your account and is used only to contact you about it. Your ZIP code is looked up on our own server to find your time zone, so that "today" and the hourly chart match your clock. Neither is sent to anyone.
We do not sell, share or disclose your counts or account information to any third party for their own purposes. Your tally is visible only to you, through your private link. Two sub-processors act on our behalf: Fly.io, Inc. (cloud hosting, United States), which stores data and does not use it for anything else; and Anthropic, PBC (AI vision, United States), which receives only the three-frame picture described above.
Deletion is automatic and self-service. Delete all my data on your tally page immediately and permanently removes everything above. Removing Street Tally from your Ring app does the same automatically. You may also request deletion, or a copy of your data, by email (below); we respond within 30 days. Download CSV on your tally page gives you every count we hold, at any time.
Counting is fully automated. No person, including the developer, views your recordings or counts in routine operation. A human looks at your data only if you ask for support or for a copy of your data, and only to fulfil that request.
Nothing is collected until you complete Ring's account-linking consent. You can stop counting any camera from your tally page, stop all collection by removing Street Tally in the Ring app, and remove all stored data with the delete control. There is no advertising, data sale or AI training to opt out of: those uses do not happen.
If we ever change what is read from your recordings, we will update this page with a new date and show a notice on your tally page before the change takes effect.
Access to your Ring account uses Ring's account-linking system; Street Tally never sees your Ring password. Data travels over HTTPS and is stored on access-controlled, encrypted infrastructure.
